Accessibility

All guests are welcome to enjoy Broadway In Detroit shows! We have several services to ensure guests with disabilities have an enjoyable experience. We make it a priority to welcome and accommodate all guests.

For guests who have sensory processing needs:

Broadway in Detroit has partnered with KultureCity® to enhance our ability to assist and accommodate guests with sensory needs. Our goal is to provide an inclusive experience for all guests during all events. We strive to raise awareness of the needs and challenges faced by individuals with sensory processing needs by supplying our staff with annual training and by offering the resources and accommodations below to our guests.

KultureCity® Sensory bags
KultureCity® Sensory bags containing special KCVIP badges, feeling thermometer, fidget tools, and noise-canceling headphones are available for checkout (at no cost by leaving an ID) at our coat check located past the main bar on house left of the Fisher Theatre lobby. Sensory bags can be used for all abilities of all ages.

Weighted Lap Pads
Weighted lap pads are available upon request (at no cost by leaving an ID) at our coat check located past the main bar on house left of the Fisher Theatre lobby. Limited quantities available.

Quiet Areas
Quiet areas are located all the way to the left of the lobby behind the box office leading to the stairs to the mezzanine, and on the loge level to the left of the elevator.

Headphone Zones
Headphone zones (loud areas) are located in the entire auditorium.

Accessible Seating Info:

Accessible seating information is available by calling (313) 887-1256. Accessible parking is available in the parking structures and surface lots adjacent to the theatre. The entrances to both the Fisher Building and Fisher Theatre are barrier free. An accessible bathroom is available in the right side of the Fisher Theatre lobby. Accessible tickets are also available online and are marked with a ♿ icon. Please note that a wheelchair spot is a dedicated space for wheelchairs and has no seat. The main floor of the Fisher Theatre is stair-free.

Closed Captioning & Audio Description:

We work with Caption Coalition Inc. to provide live closed captioning for hard of hearing and deaf patrons at our Broadway shows. There are specific seats dedicated to those in need of closed captioning services that are located closer to the stage where the closed captioning is located. We recommend Main Floor House Right Rows D to K. Not all seats in the theatre are in view of the closed captioning. To find out which performances closed captioning is available for, please visit the individual calendars on the show pages or check out the list below.

We also offer Audio Description services on the same day as our closed captioning services. An audio described performance offers visually impaired patrons the opportunity to experience a performance through live verbal commentary. The audio description does not interfere with the performance but fills in the gaps, describing facial expressions, costumes, scenery, and action sequences so that anyone requiring the service can follow the plot fully and independently. Audio description is broadcast through a headset that you can rent from us at Coat Check in the lobby.

Hearing Impaired Accommodations:

For our hearing impaired patrons, Broadway in Detroit encourages the use of the Sennheiser Mobile Connect app. This app can be downloaded on your device and is available in both the Apple Store and Google Play Store. This system works with Wi-Fi enabled phones or tablets connected to the Wi-Fi network: Hearing Assist. Password: fisher24. Phones can be used with Bluetooth enabled earbuds, headphones, and hearing aids. We also have wired headphones on hand with adapters for Apple and Android phones. Broadway in Detroit also provides a FM system and headset at all Fisher Theatre performances. These can be picked up at our coat check located past the main bar on house left of the Fisher Theatre lobby.

Pre-Visit Social Story:

A pre-visit social story is designed to help prepare our guests with autism, sensory sensitivities, or other social, learning or cognitive disabilities for a visit to the Fisher Theatre. Please check out our social story HERE.
